They are used to make statements about the real world, and often refer to general truths, such as scientific facts.<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>If you <strong><em>freeze<\/em><\/strong> water, it <strong><em>becomes<\/em><\/strong> a solid.<br \/>\nb. Plants <strong><em>die<\/em><\/strong> if they <strong><em>don&#8217;t<\/em><\/strong><strong> <em>get<\/em> <\/strong>enough water.<br \/>\nc. If my husband <strong><em>has<\/em><\/strong> a cold, I usually <strong><em>catch<\/em><\/strong> it.<br \/>\nd. If public transport <strong><em>is<\/em><\/strong> efficient, people <strong><em>stop<\/em><\/strong> using their cars.<br \/>\ne.
