The second refers to an obligation not to do something.<\/p>\n<p><em>You don\u2019t have to work tomorrow.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>You must not leave the room before the end of the test.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>expresses possibility or uncertainty: <em>This could be the house.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>expresses possibility or impossibility (with comparative adjectives): <em>The situation couldn\u2019t be worse.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>is used to make suggestions: <em>We could go to that new restaurant opposite the cinema.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>is used to express unwillingness: <em>I couldn\u2019t possibly leave Tim here on his own.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Can<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>is used to make criticism (with \u201cbe\u201d): <em>You can be really annoying, you know!<\/em><\/li>\n<li>is used to refer capability (with \u201cbe\u201d): <em>Winter here can be really cold.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Must and can\u2019t<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>refers to present time only. It expresses certainty: <em>This must be our bus\/ This can\u2019t be our room.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>May and Might<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>can be used to express \u201calthough\u201d clauses: <em>She may be the boss, but that is no excuse for shouting like that<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>describe the only thing left to do, something which the speaker is not enthusiastic about (+ \u201cas well\u201d): <em>Nobody else is going to turn up now for the new lesson, so you may as well go home.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>express possibility or uncertainty: <em>The peace conference may find a solution to the problem.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Shall<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>used with all the persons to emphasize something which the speaker feels is certain to happen or wants to happen: <em>I shall definitely give up smoking this year.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>is used in formal rules and regulations: <em>No player shall knowingly pick up or move the ball of another player.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Will<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It expresses an assumption: <em>The phone\u2019s ringing. That\u2019ll be for me.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Used to tell emphatically to tell someone of the speaker\u2019s intention, or to forbid an action, in response to a \u201cwill\u201d expression: <em>I\u2019ll take the money anyway! \/ You won\u2019t!<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Would<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Refers to an annoying habit, typical of a person: <em>Jack would get lost, wouldn\u2019t he! It\u2019s typical!<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Expresses certainty: <em>Nobody would agree with that idea.
